About the March
We Gather to Remember

Local volunteers put on an event for the community to gather for prayer and public remembrance of the Holocaust. Many speakers, including some Holocaust survivors, join in the event and share their stories in order to spread awareness and encourage the community not to be silent.

Our Inspiration: The March of Life

Our March of Remembrance in Murrieta is one of many such marches in the United States. The U.S. March of Remembrance is the American branch of the international March of Life, which was founded by Jobst and Charlotte Bittner in Germany. Here’s how we follow in their footsteps.

  • 2007

The first March of Life takes place in Germany, going from Bisingen to Dachau—both sites of concentration camps. Two Holocaust survivors and 300 children of Nazis led the prayerful march.

  • 2008

Thousands of Germans take to the streets from Buchenwald to Berlin in a national campaign of standing with Israel.

  • 2009

The March of Remembrance launches in 8 cities in the USA.

  • 2010

The March of Remembrance is held in front of Congress and in 25 cities in the USA. The March of Life unites more than 300 churches to pray in 18 cities of Ukraine.

  • 2011

The March of Remembrance expands to 45 cities in the USA, the Philippines, Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina, and Peru. March of Life networks with churches of Lithuania for a national campaign held in 8 cities. Both March of Life and March of Remembrance receive the "Friend of Israel" award from the Israeli Knesset.

  • 2012

The March of Remembrance expands to 52 cities. The March of Life holds a national campaign that covers Poland, visiting every major death camp. The march’s route traced these six former death camps in the shape of the Star of David.

  • 2013

The March of Remembrance expands to more than 60 cities around the world, with more than 40 in the U.S.

  • 2014

The Murrieta March of Remembrance started in 2014 with an attendance of 175 and increased both in size and impact with participation reaching over 400 in 2019.
